Let's spill the beans on an often-overlooked design element that, when chosen just right, can elevate your nursery from simply charming to truly divine.
Harvey Karp. When designing the perfect nursery for a baby, there are so many details to consider. One such detail that can pull a look together is the nursery window treatments. This means no antiquated blinds with long strings hanging down that could present a strangulation hazard. There are many factors to consider, including how much natural light streams in the windows and at what times of day. Valances can complete the look with a decorative and classic element…or they might seem too fussy in some rooms. Wood shutters and child-safe blinds are other options that may work, whether on their own or with curtains added for softness and texture.

Window treatments are one detail of the nursery that is often overlooked. They are typically the last item to be selected, oftentimes because they push the project over budget or seem frivolous. Not only are curtains crucial for functional reasons, but they can tie an entire design together! I find that my clients are often intimidated by installing curtains as well. Knowing the right size to order, the number of panels, and the proper hardware can feel overwhelming! Here are a few tips and tricks that I have collected over the years…. The higher and wider you mount the curtain rods, the larger and grander your space will appear. Curtains should be mounted high on the wall, fairly close to the ceiling. The curtain length should barely brush the floor, or puddle about inches if you prefer that look. To calculate the length of curtains needed for your space, measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling, and then subtract about inches to allow for hardware. You can even go closer to the ceiling if your hardware will allow!
