The new boys to the NRL competition, the Dolphins, have been given an almighty task in their top-flight debut, squaring off against the might of the Sydney Roosters to open their campaign. Without a huge amount of first grade experience in their starting halves, they will be aiming to become the first new team since Melbourne in to win their opening match. The Roosters will be determined to make a statement in this opening match. New recruit Brandon Smith in the dummy half role has been one of the highest-profile signings between seasons and will be expected to make a difference. There is a huge buzz of excitement around the Wests Tigers from their loyal fan base. Some would say the only way is up after a dismal showing at and the wooden spoon. Gold Coast were also extremely disappointing last season, only going marginally better than the Tigers, winning just six of their 24 games. Gold Coast have a dire away record, losing 14 of their last 15 games in the competition when on the road — their only win came in golden point against the Warriors, and even in this match the Titans were down in the second half.
