This makes Nowi a simple and reliable innate Distant Counter weapon user that sports some solid benefits in such a debuff heavy metagame, but is also a strong Distant Counter user that is readily available and more reliable than most other dragons that choose to run Lightning Breath themselves. The ability to easily have access to both Distant Counter and bypassing debuffs is nothing to sleep on, and even lower investment Nowi builds can get a shocking amount done depending on what content is tackled. Most noteworthy is the ever common matchup against Thrasir, who not only sports dragon effectiveness but also has colour advantage against Nowi. While there are some team setups or builds that can give Nowi an edge even against the likes of Thrasir, they can often be expensive or very committed to make sure Nowi can deal with said matchups to the point where performance in other areas may suffer as a result. She has a strong base for being such an accessible unit, but it is up to the player to ensure that base grows into something that can be potent in the late game.

She is an early-game Manakete, joining in only Chapter 8. She is one of three—four if the younger Spotpass variation of Tiki is counted—default Manaketes in the game, the others being Tiki and Nah. The only other Manakete in the series to join as early is Bantu , but Nowi does not suffer from low growth rates like he does. Her story role is minor. She is encountered and rescued by the Shepherds during their journey to Plegia , where she is fleeing from slave traders, the Grimleal , and Gregor. After Gregor attempts to explain that he is not going to harm her they fend off the Grimleal until they and the Shepherds defeat them. Having been rescued, Nowi accompanies the Shepherds for the rest of their adventures through the war with Plegia, then Valm , and eventually in the fight against Grima.

Firstly, her anti-dragon skill only works when she's in the manakete class. Upon joining the army, Nowi immediately understands her cheerful impact on the army and acts accordingly to keep the morale up.
