The series is composed of eight books mostly based on fantasy and alternate history. The writer give a clear flow of the chronological events taking place in the series. The series basis its story on Legend of the Napoleonic wars where Naomi introduces dragons as the soldiers in the war. Temeraire involves two main characters. Novik temeraire
He was originally meant to be Napoleon Bonaparte's dragon, but the ship that brought him out of China, the Amitie , ran into a string of bad luck. The dragon hatched from an egg delivered by Qian was destined to be the companion of the Crown Prince of China, so when twin eggs were delivered it became awkward because only an Emperor and his heir can be a Celestial Dragon's companion. The Chinese sent the 2nd egg as a gift to an Emperor on the other side of the world from them, to Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte as a way to prevent the dragon being used to contend the Chinese throne.

The series revolves around William Laurence and his dragon Temeraire. Obviously, it did. As there have been plenty of works already written about that time period, including the well-known Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian, it's nice to have a fresh take on these familiar battles and characters Trafalgar, Napoleon, Nelson, etc. Write a Review. Wings of Fire by Jonathan Strahan. The dragons are my main motivation. What I liked was that she didn't start from the beginning in how the dragons came to be. McCaffery's dragons are close enough that I can suspend disbelief -- Pern's gravity is lower, air is maybe thicker, they're hollow bodied and don't have to carry huge loads, just a person and saddle and load of firestone, which for all I know is a light and porous rock or the dragons couldn't chew it. Shelve Blood of Tyrants. Laurence has been a navy man and ship captain most of his life but when some unexpected loot from a French ship ends up being a dragon egg he is cast into role of rider to a new hatchling dragon and the life he thought he would have is now over. Extremely detailed and on point, they were masterfully rendered. Cue lots of dragon bonding, training, and a handful of aerial combat scenes that I found strikingly boring. Dragons seem to inhabit an uneasy place between men and beasts.

I don't love this book because Naomi Novik's writing style is equal to that of Tolkien. Unfortunately, the dragon Temeraire has been removed from military service—and his captain, Will Laurence, has been condemned to death for treason. Throne of Jade. Reliant is swept from his naval career when he captures a rare dragon egg. Anyhow, Laurence and Temeraire are so perfect for each other I think they should get married. Battledragons are also believable -- basically smallish dinosaurs in armor who like noodles as much as meat. There are a few battles they get into a little later but setting up this world was so freaking awesome. The Scholomance. I think I just fell in love with a dragon. I got a kick out of the fact that Dyer was one of his runners and Collins one of his crew -- that's the bf's and my last names :D teehee. And this isn't typically the kind of book I enjoy reading because, let's be honest, there isn't much of a plot here. Please enter a valid email address. Shelve Victory of Eagles.
