Newgrounds is a website with its headquarters in Glenside, Pennsylvania and created in that primarily hosts Adobe Flash animated films and games. The site was created and is owned by Tom Fulp , who still oversees every aspect and regularly produces in-house content. Newgrounds allows its users to submit their own flash movies, games, music, and art, and view submissions from other users. Over the years Newgrounds has grown significantly, and must rely on the cooperation of its visitors. Visitors are encouraged to rate and review the submissions. A rating system produces lists that direct visitors to the most popular Flash movies and allows the site designers to easily locate any material that might be considered for deletion or promotion. Newgrounds was first created as a website in , and in , it became the first Flash website with an automated submission system, in which members of the Newgrounds community could vote on incoming entries and determine what content would remain on the site. Since then, it has spawned a number of popular artists, movies, games, and memes. In , Newgrounds was not originally intended for the web, but rather was a fanzine for the console Neo Geo by the name "New Ground. Tom Fulp published New Ground from his parents' basement in Perkasie, PA, sending sporadic issues to around members of a club on Prodigy , an early online service. On July 6, , when Tom Fulp first obtained space to create his own web page, he immediately took on the New Ground name. Thus "New Ground Remix" was born. New Ground Remix had somewhat lacked content, until the last few weeks of the summer of , when Tom's friends had all left for college. It was in this time that he created Club A Seal and Assassin , the games that finally brought meaning to the name New Ground.
