It's more than a year before Oklahoma and Texas join the Southeastern Conference and 14 months before the two schools begin their first football season in what should be an ultra-competitive league with 16 members. But the SEC is already whetting appetites for fans by releasing its schedule on Wednesday night. This will be the first campaign the league starts without divisions, new teams to join sec, creating flexibility to match marquee opponents without regards to East or West designations, while maintaining the rivalries that are so central to the league. The Crimson Tide also will travel to Oklahoma.
The SEC has already embraced the change to a degree by banishing divisions and moving to a methodology that places the top two teams in the conference in the championship game. But that impact might be lessened if a program such as Florida State leaves. And the longer uncertainty looms, the harder it is to recruit. The new schools were not in Power Five conferences last season. Oregon immediately became a more attractive destination once it joined the Big Ten.

Morehead pointed out that the culture of the two schools fit in well with the SEC and that in the end every single SEC school voted to allow them to join. Vanderbilt athletic director Candice Lee echoed many of the same sentiments as the SEC and its other schools in that she believes the SEC is the best conference in the country and that she is "supportive of anything that makes the SEC stronger.
