I attended University in West Virginia. Here, I studied psychology and ran cross country for the school. I had the intention of graduating and pursuing my dream of becoming a police officer. However, in my final year, I lost my hearing completely on my right side. This deemed me ineligible for the police force, and I switched paths to what I was doing on the side… making moonshine. During the summers, I would come home to the family farm and continue to make moonshine there with my younger brother Sullivan. For me, the first day we were accepted into the LCBO was the largest achievement as it signifies all of the hurdles we faced, overcame… and continue to overcome. For Sullivan, there have been several huge accomplishments, from bootstrapping a company and growing the way we have to gaining further listings in other provinces and soon other countries. Attending school in the hills of West Virginia, Ben Murphy was quickly introduced to pure Appalachian Shine and all the goodness that came with it. The two would begin running their homemade still within one of the barns on the family farm, unbeknownst to their parents of course. After being encouraged by friends and family the brothers would decide to pursue legal sale of their liquid craft.
