Whenever a new installment of a series like Monster Hunter comes out, an age-old fan question usually rears its head: Which one is better? One way to determine this could be to look at the Metacritic ratings of the games in question. That's far from a decisive victory, however, and only a small part of a much bigger picture. There are certain things that mere numbers simply can't convey, not to mention the fact that patches and updates likely mean that both games are now pretty different from the ones that were originally reviewed by critics. The truth of the matter is that each one excels in certain areas, though that's not to say that one of them doesn't excel just a little more than the other. While Monster Hunter World received bonus content through the Iceborne DLC expansion, Monster Hunter Rise has recently been the recipient of numerous upgrades thanks to the Sunbreak expansion, which was released in the summer of With this new expansion comes new monsters, new locales, and an all-new range of difficulty hunts for players to overcome.

Curious as I don't really know the series that well and both are on sale rn. Mmaguy 10 months ago 3. Plus the mount is fun, it's nice to be able to really get around and get to the monster quick. World is good, but I went back to world after Rise and it felt so sluggish and outdated. It would be hard to go back to a MH game without swift, fluid movement that cuts down on the annoyances taking 50 million years to stand up after being knocked over, as an example. Mmaguy posted

Did you know Monster Hunter has been around since ? That means we're just months away from the series' 20th anniversary in March, but all eyes are on Monster Hunter: Wilds , the next instalment in If the reveal trailer that capped off the Game Awards got you excited but you're not sure where to start, good news - you're not alone. Wilds' trailer, full of weather effects, stampeding beasts, and a flying mount got tongues wagging within the GGRecon team, and as the de facto Monster Hunter fan amongst them, many have asked whether Rise or World is the best place to start for new players. An easy place to start is laying out just what a Monster Hunter game looks like. It's a very simple gameplay loop, at least in practice, that has you beating up beasts with a variety of weapons. Slay them, and you can carve them into materials for better weapons and armour to, you guessed it, hunt even tougher monsters. That's a gross oversimplification that doesn't take into account weapon types, elemental strengths and weaknesses, monster types, locales, and about a million other things, but the key thing to remember is that you're always looking to grow in power or expertise to tackle the next foe.

Rise of the Ronin 'Combat Vignette' trailer.
Monster Hunter fans have had to wait more than three years for a new entry in this power-selling franchise.
If one squints enough, they might even be able to trick themselves into thinking that they are playing Monster Hunter World. It has a massive amount of content, from Monsters to collectibles to armors and weapons and upgrades and addons to those armors and weapons. It depends what you want out of the MH game, both games are great. Both games scale the monster according to the number of players present in the quest with a few exceptions in World, so you should be okay clearing the content by yourself. Plus the mount is fun, it's nice to be able to really get around and get to the monster quick. I wouldn't say it's on the levels of something such as Dark Souls, but you're going to have to actually lock in to your state of flow, be willing to engage all possible resources, emphasis pre hunt prep, etc. However, Monster Hunter World introduces not one but two new pet species. I also played World and sank alread over h into it. I figure this was an important detail for you to consider since you mentioned it. With all this in mind, I'd say Rise is the way to go if you are heavy on the arcade feel it has and a very casual time. PopSmore 10 months ago 7. Iceborne's world's expansion has probably the single best fight in the series atm, but Rise hasn't gotten it's final update yet.
I consider, that you are mistaken. I can prove it. Write to me in PM, we will discuss.
