He has authored or co-authored over 25 novels, has over 50 published short works, two collections of stories, and has co-edited three published anthologies. He was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in , and his works have been nominated for the Audie Award multiple times, winning twice. In , Correia started the Sad Puppies campaign to nominate works for the Hugo Award , including his own, that he claimed were more popular but often unfairly passed over in favor of more literary works or stories with progressive political themes. Correia grew up in El Nido, California working on his Portuguese father's dairy farm until his mid-teens, when his family moved to Utah. He stayed in California for about a year before joining his family in Utah. After returning home from his mission, he got married before graduating with an accounting degree. He worked as an accountant for several years before Correia opened a gun store with business partners while continuing to work as an accountant.

Maria Dimitrova. I normally HATE books that go into long descriptions of firearms, but Correia actually makes it work pretty well. Edited late to add a star that should have been added long ago. I mean, it takes nothing to read it. Get a hold of yourself! All … righty then. This book is perfect for it's niche audience, which apparently is the southern redneck libertarian male juvenile gun nut. Monsters don't go down like Rudolf near a salt lick on Christmas Eve in this book. I thought I knew what this would be before I even looked at the first page. I found it enjoyable to read an urban fantasy that was not dependent on magic. That should tell you something about the loving, tender home where he grew up. I very quickly began to understand some of the raves from friends — the first-person-POV Hero, Owen Zastava Pitt, sounded very much like a couple of them. My pleasure and stuff. And now Owen is their newest recruit. Reviewed by: Rabid Reads. Z's right wing attitude and obsession with firearms makes him a difficult character to relate to. Search review text. They seemed to be little more than an assassination attempt on the MC and his friends with not much else going on. Possibly even more gory than Ilona Andrews. What else? So what's the deal here? There is non-stop action. Correia did a good job of writing the ladies into solid, important and "Equal" roles. Loved the main character Owen and all the supporting cast. If that sounds fun to you, you might actually like this book. I would say that if you are so concerned about what others think that you won't read the books you enjoy or at least you won't "admit" to it that in itself may be a deeper problem than choosing to read something for "fun".
