Mission to mars omega swatch
Everyone has a story of "the one that got away. For me, it's the Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project. When I saw it in photos, I fell in love with its crisp white dial, and funky chronograph hands immediately.
With all that being said, I did manage to get my hands on a MoonSwatch. The Mission to Mars is one of my favorite MoonSwatches. Only the Mission to the Moon and the Mission to Neptune which sells at an insane 5x premium would be above it on my list. Being a New Yorker, and having access to 3 Swatch stores in close proximity to my office and apartment, you might expect me to have gotten lucky and been able to walk out of the store with a shiny new MoonSwatch on my wrist. Well I tried.

I didn't have a real Speedmaster handy to compare, but I imagine that its hands are thicker and longer. I'm guessing I never will. It is small details like these that really make an enthusiast appreciate the MoonSwatch.

The Omega X Swatch Speemaster MoonSwatch has been out for a few months and these timepieces are still as hard to find at Swatch Stores as they were at launch and still not available online. Watch enthusiasts are still all-in on the unprecedented collaboration between two Swatch Group stalwarts, the luxury brand Omega and the more affordable Swatch. Read through why we prefer certain models over others and let us know if you agree. I might get some flack for not putting the Mission to the Moon first on our MoonSwatch rankings but hear me out. The Mission to Neptune, however, comes in a light blue bioceramic material case which is a proprietary mixture of plastic and ceramic , which is contrasted by the dark blue dial and bezel. The dark blue mixed with the white hands and indices gives the watch a unique, yet not overwhelming, look. Not to mention the market seems to agree. That is 4 to 5 times the premium price of many of the other MoonSwatch models and almost 8 times the retail price. From the black dial to the vintage colored indices and hands, the watch screams Moonwatch! The biggest difference between this watch and the original besides the movement is that the bioceramic case of the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon is a dark gray as opposed to stainless steel.

Omega and Swatch and took the watch world by storm in by releasing a collaboration. It came as a total surprise and quickly became one of the most globally talked about products. When I first saw the teaser images, leaks and then the release, I could not have been more excited! It is one of the coolest ideas I have seen in recent years. I was on holiday at the time and fortunate enough to be near a store for release day. However, I did not manage to purchase one at launch like many other disappointed enthusiasts. Since then I have managed to purchase the Mission to Jupiter model that I bought it from a colleague who managed to get his hands on it. Given the levels of coverage over the last few months, I will only touch on the basics so we can focus more on the other aspects of it.

The store had all of the versions on display, and it was fun to see them all in person. Martin St. Additionally, the case is made of a light Bioceramic as Swatch calls it material and not steel. The color combinations with different planets and other celestial bodies is a great concept. When I saw it in photos, I fell in love with its crisp white dial, and funky chronograph hands immediately. The crystal is Hesalite and not sapphire so is prone to scratching. The hands, and the Mission to Mars in its entirety, was clearly meant to pay homage to the Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project. It was because of this that I was especially excited about the Mission to Mars version of the Moonswatch when Swatch released the series last year. But this watch is branded as an Omega, and I feel it's something different than an homage. My current favorite is the appropriately-named Mars Red Sailcloth. A steel speedy is quite comfortable and well-balanced, and being as light as a feather makes the Moonswatch even better to wear.

Check out Continue shopping. I didn't have a real Speedmaster handy to compare, but I imagine that its hands are thicker and longer. I didn't have to think long, finally, I had a Moonswatch! I tried prodding the sales associate for more information about when restocking normally happened but was told it was all random. The ticking is quite loud, and easy to hear through the plastic case and crystal. My biggest gripe about is is that it is visually a bit bulky on the bottom side of your wrist where the loop sits. Additionally, it's just a FUN lineup. The Mission to Mars has a playful red bioceramic case with white dial, white bezel and red chronograph hands. Rather than being at 3 and 9, the subdials are shifted toward the top of the dial. If I still had the chance to buy one at the original price, I would ditch the Mission to Mars in a second, but it has reduced the sting more than I expected it would. The strap is lightweight and comfortable but feels and looks cheap. The Mall of America Swatch stores also had a few Moonswatch straps available for purchase separately for those who want to freshen theirs up or try a different color. As I already mentioned, however, since the case shape is faithful to the Omega Speedmaster, aftermarket rubber straps made for the Speedmaster fit the MoonSwatch. Additionally, it looks cool.
