Mercury optimax fuel economy

This past week I was making a 4 mile run with 3 people and gear and my smartcraft gauges were telling me I was using 2. I am wondering what others have experienced with MPG with their Optimax? Also what is the optimal RPM for fuel economy while running in the mid-range? Are you sure you had it on GPH? You should have been in the gph range which would equate to about 4 mpg give or take depending on your speed. I would expect the best efficiency would be when your just on plan at about 3k rpm and would expect it to be around mpg, for sure nor more than 7 mpg. I also have a on a 20ft Yarcraft and the smart craft gauge. Sure it wasnt on MPG? I was just watching the fuel used screen. I would have a reading at the start of the run of, lets say, 10 gallons and at the end of the 4 mile run I would have a reading of On the 4 mile run it would say I used 2. When I installed the smartcraft gauges, I never did get the speedometer working so I don't think I can get a reading of MPG on the gauges currently.

The reason we used XD was it was a borrowed boat and that is what the owner said to use so we did. I then went to install the fuel paddle oil harness mercury optimax fuel economy discovered the plug on the engine is 8 pin and the wiring harness is 6 pin. Bound to get even better when it loosens up a bit.

The least powerful of a trio of Direct Fuel Injection two-strokes from to hp, the OptiMax produces substantially more torque than its 2. The has all standard OptiMax features, such as the dual-stage Orbital Combustion Process OCP , a massive 60amp belt-driven alternator and SmartCraft instrumentation which displays fuel flow, range-to-empty, engine cooling water temperature and pressure, and alternator charging voltage. The OCP utilises a combination of stratified and homogenous combustion with low-pressure injection of petrol and air at 5. This results in significantly greater fuel flow, but still only around 15 per cent more than comparable-output four-strokes, which return maximum fuel efficiency in the to rpm range. Providing the antiventilation plate was kept at least three-quarters immersed, power astern was good and no cooling water starvation occurred. Vibration levels across the entire rev range were very low but the normal Merc V6 howl was present above rpm, making the engine somewhat noisier than comparable four-strokes. Pushing a total of kg, including two adults, the trolled us at 5.

However, that is not the case with the Mercury OptiMax outboard motor. Its big-displacement three-cylinder powerhead sends waves of vibration through the hull structure at leass than rpm, guaranteeing gentle flab reduction whenever you grip the hull or steering wheel. A belt-driven, voltage-regulated 60A alternator provides plenty of power for electronic toys and since the only other belt is for the air compressor, the is relatively trouble free compared to hp four-strokes. The dry weight is kg for the longshaft version kg for extra-long and the gear ratio 2. Powerhead access is good even though a 4. Mercury recommends servicing every hours or annually after the first 20 hours, and the engine has a five-year recreational use warranty.

The 2. In carburetted and EFI form, it can develop up to hp. The combination of a relatively low WOT wide open throttle range — from to rpm — plus big cylinder bore and short piston stroke ensure its long lifespan. Unlike some of its four-stroke competition, the Mercury OptiMax outboard motor is a true marine engine with a diecast alloy cylinder block and head designed to handle the rigours of direct saltwater cooling. Spare parts are readily available and Mercury even offers a rebuild program for the powerhead. This differs from the Evinrude E-TEC system in that it injects atomised air and fuel rather than just straight fuel via unit injectors, as occurs in a direct-injection car engine. However, this is as lean as overall in the combustion chamber.

It was better than what I expected. Or the dealers have no good idea how to mechanically calibrate the ratio to the manufacturers specs at the engine OR they cannot be bothered as they can then effectively pocket that portion of the setup fee? Thanks a lot, always great to get an insight how the baby is going to run. On my '89 hp Direct Charged Merc, like loopers but slightly different I could run on a 10 gallon tank all day Sunday and have fuel left to fish the rest of the week. You are using an out of date browser. Do you think it is worth it to start a separate thread on this model Explorer where we give our impressions, both the positive and the negative? Hoping they tweak the to a soon. New posts. Re: optimax feul consumption Who cares about fuel consumption? So, yes, some numbers would help Any one can guess.

Undoubtedly, no other brand makes outboard motors more powerful, efficient, and reliable than Mercury Marine.

I went with newer used 4-strokes that were checked out by a certified tech. What have i learnt? Log in Register. I know it'll be worth it though. Would definitely like to see an improvement over my EFI motor. AVS Forum. Hi Dicko the subject is huge will try not to overspeak, what is wrong with the TCW3 spec is lubricity, it's the fact that the minimum standard to pass this test portion is almost, or is artificially low. If it's an older hull, they were designed for the weight of 2 strokes. Search Advanced search…. Please check your spam folder before sending us a message.
