The Art of Partying is homage to such crossover innovators as DRI, and the Cro Mags, while still maintaining a high level of melody and sense of thrash to please fans of Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies. This collection of songs by the Municipal Waste is a sonic slab of circle pit-educing mayhem. Thrashers in denim, jeans, hats and spiked belts vomit up radioactive green sludge that is served from a keg, as several metal heads partake in a cannibalistic ritual, and others tear at their own flesh.

The title originates from a line of lyrics Fenriz of Darkthrone wrote for the band. Despite being a bootleg, the album is sometimes erroneously listed as one of the band's main albums, mainly due to the notoriety regarding the cover art, which is an image of the late Mayhem vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin shortly after he committed suicide. The bootleg is a recording of a live show that took place on 28 February in Sarpsborg , Norway.
