A destructive fire that started in the Edge 3 apartment building under construction, and then spread to an adjacent Edge 2 building and two neighbouring houses, was the biggest story in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows in The Edge 3 building, under construction by MacLean Homes, was a five storey wood structure, that had no fire breaks, exterior cladding or sprinkler system to slow the spread. Fire Chief Michael Van Dop, who is currently on leave from the department, noted there were security cameras in the building under construction.
