Apologies for that, but for once we left home with no devices other than a phone. We are slaves to the various shopping sites and booking platforms we peddle our wares on you lose all your brownie points if you take too long to acknowledge sales or reply to queries , but sometimes you just want it all to STOP, if only for a few days, which we did manage to do. The box of padded envelopes which arrived when we were away sadly suffered the fate of being left outside our garage for three days, next to a leaky downpipe. Fortunately I saved most of them by lining them up along the radiators but for once the sometimes risky practice of leaving deliveries in the recycling bin might have been a better option. So, where did I go? There has been much development going on along the waterfront of late and it also has some of the most interesting visitor attractions in Scotland.

Posted by Nicky Richmond on November 14, in food , food writing 10 Comments. Do you remember that song? When I started this blog a decade ago, I wrote about my food memories and why I was doing it, here. Though not having written about restaurants for some time, it might be helpful for anyone new here for me to introduce myself so you can hop onto the Richmond restaurant roadshow and see whether you want to stay. Even typing those words is weird after 36 years of continuous work. I stopped after a Michelin crawl round France which felt wrong. And I had put on a lot of weight. A lot. And then I went to the other extreme and got to a size 6. I was looking at the rise of the Instagram influencer, where it seemed like all you had to do to get Insta-famous was take a few photos of food, enthuse wildly about said food, get cosy with the PRs, get invited to all the openings, get a shedload of followers, repeat ad nauseam and suddenly, there is such a thing as a free lunch. For quite a while, this influencing advertising was done surreptitiously, dare I even say illegally. And when I see the words [invite] or [gift] or [ ad] I tend to walk on by. I struggle with influencers who are really just advertising for the product or restaurant and who do so without any specialist knowledge or care. Or the publicity. Or the free food.

Here, the process continues with a skilful rebuild of the Average White Band hit which becomes a slick and effective disco stomper with strong '70s overtones. But it sadly lacks adventure.
How time flies. Although the pieces that comprised AWB in the early years have since splintered, Average White Band lives on with Onnie McIntyre and Alan Gorrie — original band members — still performing with zest, supported by the brilliant lead vocals of Brent Carter. As for the splinters, they have carved out splendid careers for themselves. Albums — and successful ones at that — have followed. Stewart remains the master of the live act. He even managed to get some of the largely middle aged audience out of their seats and dancing — no mean feat for a Thursday night in conservative Chelsea. Assisted in big dollops by a mercurial Adam Phillips on guitar, the ever genial Steve Pearce on bass, Ian Thomas on drums, Jim Watson on keyboards, plus a four-strong horn section led by Duncan the Duke of Montrose , Stewart confirmed that age has done little to wane his powers. His voice, all soul and falsetto, can still rip through the heart like a razor. Haunting on occasion, spine tingling at other times. Funky when needs must.

I n these nostalgia-driven times, few musical ventures set the cash tills ringing like a pop act's comeback. But many end in disaster - even for pop's biggest names. Michael Jackson has been booed off stage, the Spice Girls' initially triumphant tour was downsized amid reports of less-than-spicy ticket sales, and serial comeback queen Britney Spears' last attempt ended in onstage tears, as she appeared to have forgotten how to dance along to her own lyrics.

Another reason we chose Dundee last weekend was because Mr WIAA has family who have moved to a place not too far from the city. Perhaps I should have chosen something by a Dundee band for this post but the usual suspects, Deacon Blue, Danny Wilson and The Associates have all already appeared. Good post. As the first two bands in that list have appeared around here before, a good time to include something by Aztec Camera who quite unfathomably have never been featured.
