This was achieved by stripping the Gibson Les Paul down to the basics: no binding, no carved top, one pickup, one volume knob and one tone knob. It was originally released in sunburst in mid In , Gibson launched the Les Paul TV model, which was identical to the Junior except for the name and a fashionable contemporary "limed oak" style finish, later more accurately named "limed mahogany". In the s and s the Les Paul Junior became very popular because of its simplicity and distinguishable tone when played through a high-gain amplifier. This guitar, first unveiled in , has held a legendary status amongst rock musicians for its simplicity and soulful sound. The Gibson Les Paul Junior Double-Cutaway is a faithful reissue of this classic, bringing back the magic of the original to modern players. Its mahogany slab body and single P dog-ear pickup in the bridge position deliver a raw, punchy tone that will make you stand out in any mix. The P, with its unique 'dog ear' flanges, offers a raw and rocking experience that's hard to resist. The simplicity of this guitar is its strength; there's nothing to come between you and your music. The Gibson Les Paul Junior Double-Cutaway features a double-cutaway design that not only looks great but also allows for easier access to the upper frets. Its 1-piece mahogany neck with a '50s profile gives you the feel of a genuine '58 LP Junior in your hands.

It appears that Gibson has since decided to discontinue much of the faded lines, including the Les Paul Special Double cut for its lineup. For many years after no Les Paul Doublecut guitars were produced by Gibson, and when Gibson did start making doublecut Les Pauls again, they were re-issues closely following the original Les Paul Special flat-top no carved maple cap design, with P pickups rather than humbucker pickups. In the interim, during the s, a small boutique USA guitar producer, Hamer , began making both flat-top and carved-top doublecutaway guitars very similar to the then-dormant Gibson designs. These Hamer versions of doublecutaway Les Pauls got widespread publicity for their use by the members of the rock band Cheap Trick and others. The Faded Doublecut has its origin in the Les Paul Special Doublecut, which is an all-mahogany flat-top guitar with P pickups first produced from — The "Faded" model is called such because the nitrocellulose finish is not thick and glossy like the original vintage examples or Custom Shop double cut Les Pauls.
