I'm tired of the blame. That mirror was a prison and fusion was the same! During her alignment with the Gem Homeworld , she was caught in the crossfire of The Rebellion and got poofed by Bismuth. Homeworld mistook her for one of the Crystal Gems and imprisoned her within a magical mirror with the intention of interrogating her about her supposed comrade's whereabouts. After being abandoned by the Homeworld Gems fleeing the Corrupting Light , Lapis would remain in the mirror for thousands of years until she eventually convinced Steven to free her. Once Lapis returned to Homeworld, she was forced back to Earth by Peridot and Jasper , the latter of whom she fused with into Malachite in order to protect Steven. Following Malachite's defeat in " Super Watermelon Island ", Lapis realized she had no choice but to live on Earth after betraying Jasper, subsequently making her an enemy of Homeworld. Lapis decided to live at The Barn with Peridot. At one point , Lapis admits to Steven she enjoyed being Malachite, as it allowed her to take her anger out on someone. However, when Jasper returns soon afterwards, Lapis refuses her offer to become Malachite once again and chooses Steven and healing herself over giving into anger. Lapis formed a strong bond with Peridot during their time living together, until the threat of another war between Earth and Homeworld scared Lapis into fleeing to the Moon, taking the barn with her, but leaving Peridot behind.
Quote Mine : In the mirror, she acts as a recording device and communicates by taking and arranging parts of whatever she records. Her behavior upon release suggests the experience was not pleasant.
Lapis Lazuli is one of the most popular characters of the critically acclaimed TV show Steven Universe. And for good reason. She is a very complex character whose origins are still shrouded in mystery. For some of us including myself, we can relate to Lapis very much. There is more to life than being stuck in the past, which the show again shows how it is not always that easy for some people. Yet as with most popular large fandoms, there is always going to be some rather, well, lousy and often unconstructive criticism among fans. Sometimes it just becomes downright ugly.
You really expect us to dance and sing like Pearls? Forget it, Steven Universe. You've already got a Lapis doing what you want, and look how dull it's made her. Or was she always this pitiful? Alongside a navel-gem Lapis Lazuli , the two were still terraforming planets even after Steven 's message of dismantling Homeworld 's oppressive empire. While in the end "Nice" Lapis went to Earth and enrolled in Little Homeschool , "Mean" Lapis stayed behind, with her current whereabouts being unknown. Her outfit consists of a blue top with dark blue details, as well as a blue diamond insignia in a different shade of blue. She also has a long blue skirt, blue eyes, and is barefoot.

The former started out innocent but becomes more cynical and dangerous due to everything that happens to her throughout the series, whereas the latter is extremely cynical and dangerous to begin with, but ends up losing those qualities and becoming a better person through the Crystal Gems, her former enemies. Her release was the focus of "Mirror Gem" and "Ocean Gem". She slowly warms up to them as she begins to live on Earth, and finally joins the team officially in "Reunited". You'll just have to keep watching to find out more about Peridot. She officially joins the Crystal Gems in "Reunited" , stating that, if Homeworld is going to punish her as a Crystal Gem, she might as well be one. When Lapis, Peridot, and Bismuth later show up on Homeworld in Yellow and Blue Diamonds arm ships in "Change Your Mind", their relationship seems to have evolved immensely, such as when Bismuth helps Lapis land safely on the ground after they come out of the ships. Heroic Sacrifice : Inverted. Giant Hands of Doom : Her water-powers can manifest as giant arms out of the ocean, and she does so repeatedly. It is unknown what her opinion was on the Diamonds before she was freed from her prison, but she does try to return to Homeworld promptly afterward. At the same time, she's nowhere near as durable as the others — in "Same Old World" , all it took was one good hit from Bismuth to poof Lapis into Gem form. She is also the first character in the series to successfully land a hit on a Diamond, although it did not definitively subdue her opponent. And this after her return to Earth when she dropped the barn onto Blue Diamond's head.

The Unapologetic : While Lapis' attitude is not unjustified thanks to her several traumas, she never actually apologizes for being rude to other people, or for her actions that hurt them. At one point , Lapis admits to Steven she enjoyed being Malachite, as it allowed her to take her anger out on someone. Steven helps her get over it for the most part in "Alone at Sea".
