Being the foodie that I am, it was imperative to plan out all my local food excursions. Everyone has their own taste in food and dining, but for me personally, I was looking for local spots with great local flavor. Sometimes, that led me down sketchy alleyways, but for the la cueva del mar san juan part, I definitely think I got a taste of Puerto Rico. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere; it's well furnished with ample of seating spaces and is decorated with fishing paraphernalia. Their seafood rice, Chili Calamari and fish tacos are their must-try dishes, in addition the octopus salad, and Cod empanada should not be left out. Their sangria is one of the best in the city and it complements with everything on the menu. The portions are generous and the service is swift which ensures a delightful experience.

The Pad Thai is very good and plentiful good enough for two! Pinchos come with crispy dough instead of plain French bread. Everything is hand made to order so the wait can be long, but SO worth it. Bring your own drinks, chairs and umbrella. Lots of security on the weekends. Come early as it gets packed weekend afternoons.

My wife and I have been frequenting Cueva del Mar for over a year now stopping for a Sunday lunch once or twice a month with our folks. Though the place is awfully noisy dreadful acoustics and those annoying tv screens , and sort of unclean Their food, depending on what you order, goes from pretty good to average, and their prices are somewhat reasonable; you can splurge on some pretty good seafood or you can have a rather decent meal for a modicum amount of money. The staff tends to be courteous and attentive, and some of them, like a young man named Pepe who sometimes tends the bar, are true professionals of the food industry. Others, like today's waitress, can make a good experience feel below average. My main peeves are, my beer was warm, had to ask her for a glass twice, serving us water she spilled some on one of our seafood dishes, lack of boundaries, immersed in her cellphone instead of taking our order, and so on and on. I'm sure we'll be back for all the good qualities mentioned above, but someone should supervise the wait staff or I'm sure they will start loosing customers little by little.
