Under the general direction of the Collection Services Manager, performs a variety of tasks in the areas of receiving, data entry, processing, circulation, and distribution.

Our cardholders have access to one of the largest digital collections in the country, featuring eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming or downloadable movies, music, games and even a digital comic book collection. Programs at Kent District Library make reading and learning how to read fun for young children. KDL storytimes are proven to increase early literacy development, helping children start kindergarten ready to read. Learning is truly a lifelong endeavor at KDL with embedded staff members offering reading programs and activities at many senior citizen centers throughout Kent County. As a partner in the arts and entertainment community, we offer a variety of creative opportunities for all ages.

Under the general direction of the Patron Services Manager, the Patron Services Associate offers convenient service to all library users through a variety of contact methods such as phone, email, and live chat ; provides circulation, reference and general information assistance; serves as remote support for KDL branch staff; assists with KDL's centralized MeLCat procedures; and serves as a model for KDL's Service Priorities. Responds to inquiries regarding user accounts, library services, policies, procedures, and circulation and reference information by a variety of contact methods such as phone, email and live chat, and uses the KDL Hand-Off to transfer users to appropriate staff as needed. Receives and resolves user complaints empathetically, and escalates problems of greater complexity to the appropriate manager. Maintains expertise on KDL's eResources; remotely instructs and assists in basic technical support, maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of eReaders and devices to effectively help users access the digital collection and electronic databases. Answers questions about library events and manages online event registration for users. Manages user accounts by updating library card records and aiding in the collection of fines and other bills; processes online registration applications and reviews library card registrations issued in KDL branches. Supports KDL's centralized MeLCat procedures through a variety of tasks, including but not limited to the following: processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials; running regular reports and sending notices; facilitating billing and invoicing procedures according to MCLS policies; providing MeLCat support to KDL users and branch staff; performing general problem-solving and follow-up communication with KDL branch staff and other participating MeLCat libraries as needed. Provides branch staff with remote support and problem-solving regarding but not limited to: the ILS, general library processes, and KDL policies and procedures. Maintains the Book Club in a Bag kit collection, processes outgoing and returned kits, manages kit reservations and answers branch staff inquiries. Performs other duties as assigned.
