BAFTA award-winning Danish composer Jesper Kyd is one of the most celebrated composers in video games, renowned for his experimental approach to crafting unique soundtracks and creating iconic music for blockbuster video game franchises including Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, Darksiders, Hitman and State of Decay. The team then relocated to Boston. Zyrinx dissolved when their game publisher Scavenger went bankrupt. The soundtrack to Hitman: Codename 47 was based on urban soundscapes and ethnic instrumentation. He used modern electronica and symphonic and choral music in Hitman: Contracts. Kyd then provided a cinematic middle eastern-based score for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed. He then wrote music for several games in the Assassin's Creed and Borderlands franchise. Kyd composed the soundtrack of Warhammer 40, Darktide , which released in Kyd sought to create a score that would fit a retro-futuristic setting, and avoided using orchestral elements and guitars, which were typically found in other Warhammer games.

Danish composer Jesper Kyd chats with Meena Shamaly about his journey of musical curiosity, his obssession with the human voice, and creating one of the most iconic themes in modern gaming. For more than two decades, Jesper Kyd has been consistently reinventing video game music. After years spent making music in the 's European "demo scene" where programmers and artists push audio-visual boundaries in increasingly flashy ways , Kyd and his friends went on to found IO Interactive, the video game studio responsible for the Hitman games. Swinging his pendulum between symphonic scores, electronic experimentation, and instruments from around the world, Kyd went on to win a BAFTA for the score to Hitman: Contracts. His sonic wanderlust would lead him towards the birth of one of gaming's biggest series: Assassin's Creed, where he explores history through musical creativity, including multiple collaborations with unique musicians like Melissa R. Kaplan and Diego Stocco. Many beloved scores later, he only gets more excited about music and video games. While so much of his work deals with dark worlds, it stands in stark contrast to his sheer joy in the art, and his thrill at seeing game scores come to life on the concert stage.
