I last did this about seven years ago and even though I still had a few months left on my visa, Immigration cancelled it and said I had to leave the country within 7 days.

The bus would leave at AM, head up Sukhumvit Road past the Nana intersection and turn right on to the expressway, headed for the border crossing in Sa Kaeo province with Cambodia. The ride to the border was a sombre affair.
