A guy who falls under the criteria of being 'Indie' Usually sports the long, messed up hair that looks as if they haven't bothered to fix it, which is the style that they've been trying to achieve in the first place. Indie Girl. Traditionally, someone who doesn't care what anybody else thinks, or at least pretends to. If she sees something she likes in Urban Outfitters or Topshop, she'll get it. If she sees something she likes in Abercrombie, she'll get it. If she likes something in a thrift store, she'll get it, etc. Likewise, her music taste should be what she likes, not limited by any sort of genre. She will read, write or draw if those are the things she enjoys or is good at. To be an indie girl, you have to be someone who is mature enough to know who you are and happy enough in yourself to stand out. To be a fake indie girl, however, you need only 4 things. Tumblr, photoshop, a pretentious jumped-up attitude and a fringe. Fake indie girls are the ones who google 'bands that nobody has heard of' to make themselves different. Sound: In the begining indie sounded like alternative because it was but it grew more experimental and weird. In Britain indie has more of a typical sound like Radiohead, Muse, etc. The main point is, don't take the scene and the whole hipster attitude seriously. No one does. And if you do, well, then I'm cooler than you.

Unrighteous self pity , and closed mindedness are all seen as stupid. They listen to music that you've probably never heard of, wear what they want and are usually in touch with subjects that allow them to express themselves such as textiles ,art,media,music and photography. You're not an indie girl if you have to say it. Sadly where I live, the indie boy is incredibly rare due to my town being incredibly chavvy. I can't wait to attend the upcoming fashion show- there will be some great indie designers there and I'm looking for something unique! Indie is a culture, a state of mind, and a never-ending quest for good music. They are probably my favourite band at the moment. Indie people only do what they want because they are independant people and like to dress the way they want and listen to whatever music they like etc. I can't stand indie boys. But the only way to be indie in a small way is to just do what YOU want, dress how you want, listen to the music you like and everybody else can bugger off. There are no defining elements of whom an indie girl is since being indie is more of a state of mind rather than a fashion statement. Better than regular people, they're smarter, hotter they generally try and act like they don't care about how they look, but they do , and better than the general populace. Talking solidly for half an hour just about music is a fantastic experience. This is because indies spend all their money on clothes and coffee, they dont have time for food. Their instrument of choice is either the acoustic guitar or the keyboard, that adds to their limp and poncy sound. Unfortunately this does little to relieve the boredom in indie music as the same hash is re-hashed again and again.
