If the angels seized the Pandemonium Fortress the Demons would simply take it back — until the next assault by Heaven managed to do the same. What good was having the Eye of Anu when you could never really use it before the enemy would come take it from you? What good was fighting a war nobody would ever win? When Inarius was taken captive by Demons during a skirmish, he expected to be destroyed. He ranted at his captors about the uselessness of the war, and the pain that both sides went through for it. But unknown to him, Lilith — daughter of Mephisto, Queen of the Succubi — was listening from the shadows. Lilith explained that she, too, despised the Eternal Conflict.

When the angel and demon pair stole the Worldstone and created Sanctuary, they didn't expect that they can copulate. Their fellow angel and demon renegades felt fear over the potential of these new spawn, the Nephalem, which could hold power greater than them. In turn, a series of events would lead to the Nephalem losing their powers and becoming humans. However, like Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 would prove, no amount of time could seal the inherent potential in humans. The Nephalem would walk in Sanctuary once more but with Lilith making a return in Diablo 4 , fans also extend the question to Inarius. Would the father of the Nephalem return? Inarius, Lilith and their followers lived in relative harmony in Sanctuary. In fact with no war to be had, they amused themselves in other way. Specifically copulating and reproducing. The offspring that came of this inter-breeding was known as the Nephalem. The first being the son of Inarius and Lilith, Linarian. Linarian would later come to be known as Rathma, the first necromancer. Linarian and the other first nephalem are known as The Ancients. There were supposedly tens of thousands of Ancients at some point in the history of Sanctuary, who all spread across this new world in their efforts to discover and understand it.

However, while Inarius may have genuinely felt affection for Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred may not have felt the same way. Before he could react, lightning began to strike the area, causing widespread damage. In a twist of irony, Inarius and Lilith's theft of the Worldstone actually granted when what they wanted: ceasefire. Lilith cursed them, but promptly disappeared. In the case of Rathma, Lilith appeared to display genuine grief for her son's death. Fiery quills of an emerald sheen along with similar scales adorned her head in place of hair, and those same quills ran down her spine to culminate in a reptilian tail ending in savage barbs.
