Traditionally, icebox cakes are no-bake desserts made with layers of cookies and fluffy whipped cream. The star ingredient, however, is the type of cookie Ina chooses to use: Tate's Bake Shop chocolate chip cookies. These famous chocolate chip cookies started out at a bakery in Southampton, NY, and have gained well-deserved popularity across the country. The cookies, available at many grocery retailers in the US, are known for being incredibly buttery, crunchy, and thin but not too thin. It's no surprise that Ina, a resident of East Hampton, is a fan of Tate's cookies, and it's clear that they make the perfect base for an icebox cake.

It first caught our attention when the Barefoot Contessa posted an Instagram video of the confection being made. Naturally, we dove deeper. Everything appeared somewhat run-of-the-mill, until we realized the secret ingredient that takes this otherwise modest cake to a whole new level of fabulous: Inside the cake Garten places layers of Tate's chocolate chip cookies. Although the deliciously crunchy cookies originated not far from Garten's home in Southhampton, New York, they're now available nationwide.
