I think I have declared the hull finished three times before this. But as I was milling lumber for the trim and rubrails, I kept running my hand over the boat and could still feel bumps. Then I opened the overhead door to natural sunlight and could see shadows. So one more time I got out the grinder and some super-sandpaper used for auto body work and chewed into the hull. The same old problems at the root of the bumps emerged:.

But what they really mean could be a telltale sign of which used boat to buy, or not to buy. Oooh, the clean sweeps and crisp lines of those boats. Such style! But hull design is not just a matter of style. Well, they do it because a deep-V hull is seaworthy but slow, and a flat-bottom is fast but flakey. Finding a blend of seaworthiness and speed has become a tantalizing challenge for some builders. It features a pair of small, 2-inch tall steps with large vents at the chines. During my trial of the Z I can say that I did not experience this hesitation. I will also say that I have experienced it aboard other boats. The Hull Truth is a free interactive forum. It is the first largest boating, sailing, fishing, all things marine life forum on the web. The forum cuts across everything there is to know about life on the sea, including buying and selling boats, fishing, marine electronics, and a host of other related topics. The hull truth website began on the 21st of February as a substitute to Saltwater Sportsman magazine internet forums. The need for a substitute forum emerged when most forums on Saltwater Sportsman were getting withheld as the advertisers in the magazine did not like the effects of an open forum as they discussed issues affecting their boats or products. Although the website has been sold to Internet Brands Inc.

Byron is amazing - really knows his stuff. I bought it because at the time, SUVs rolling over was all the rage, and MB was the only one who did extensive rollover testing and built reinforced roof structures. Stepped Hull — A hull with a trough that runs from the outer chine all the way to the keel, creating separate forward and aft surfaces. I'm willing to pay more if I can tell the extra work was put in during the design and engineering phase. An appearance that is powerful. It was blowing east about 15 and the seas were 3 to 4 maybe, best we could do was 16 or 17 kts, anything more and the boat launched. MarshMarlowe Information Posts: Log in Register. Strakes — Horizontal or nearly horizontal lengthwise surfaces that help lift the boat onto plane. But those exaggerated sponsons on the outside of the running surface are called split chines. In the race boats, though, it can also cause herky-jerky movements. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. We're all adults here, and I feel a little pokin' fun every now and then should be ok, but I humbly apologize. It shows in the way they continue to tweak the line. The Marlin is a great example - the boat's been around since what - ? Xynole is like body armor in toughness, but just too hard to work with. I had read some of that thread Beautiful boat, very fast and stable but all the bull you hear over at that other site about these boats is bull.
