Houseki no Kuni also know as Land of the Lustrous with its simplistic art style and stylized use of black and white contrast is the first manga that I have read.

Set in a world inhabited by "jewel people", it chronicles their efforts to find the place where they belong and defend their way of life. A 3D anime television series adaptation by Orange aired between October and December Land of the Lustrous is set in a far, distant future where the Earth had been struck six times by meteorites, ravaging it in the process. All of the remaining land was reduced to a single coast, whereas nearly all life was destroyed. Over vast stretches of time, a new race of sentient lifeforms emerged; immortal jewels that take the form of people. Phosphophyllite Phos is weak with one of the lowest hardnesses and considered useless by their peers.

Those who could not make it to the island sank to the bottom of the ocean, where, over time, they slowly turned to crystal. The 28 active Gems must fight back against the deadly Lunarians who seek to turn the Gems into decorations. All Gems are assigned a specific role to play in their community, such as fighter, medic, weapon-smith, etc. Though they hope to fight the Lunarians, Phosphophyllite , or Phos, is a Gem who is given no assignment due to their lack of any skills until the leader of the Gems, Kongo Sensei , asks them to make a natural history encyclopedia. Phos attempts to find a more exciting job than their currently assigned one, but quickly finds themselves in over their head. Yellow Diamond , is one of the gems who works out on patrol duty. As the oldest gem and one of if not the fastest, they are looked up to like an older sibling by their fellow gems, a role they take seriously.
