I started to focus on street photography in when I decided to take all my photos with an 85mm lens in the streets. After some time I realized that this lens was too long for this purpose. The focal length changed, the name remained and I got closer and closer. Today I take some of my street photos with a 50mm from a very short distance. Why I wrote this book?

It is the early major learning curve, but once you learn to get through this, the sky is the limit. Eventually, the idea of getting close and comfortable photographing people will start to feel easy and normal, but there are some street photography tips and strategies that can get to you this point much quicker. As a street photographer, you can benefit from a little acting if you are going to try to get close to a subject while being inconspicuous. And I mean acting subtly. Avoid pointing your head directly at your subject or making eye contact. There is something evolutionary about eye contact that will make a person immediately notice you. Instead, try to look through the person, as if you are looking at something behind them and slightly to the side. This will tend to make you look like you are a little spaced-out or engrossed in something. Pretend you are noticing something to the side or behind them, maybe engrossed in a building or something happening across the street and the person just happens to be in the way.

Always shoot in RAW, which is in color. Be sure you work hard on the photography part, not on the watermark part. People would be interchangeable, but not replaceable. This can be an advantage, if you miss a shot, but can get boring, when you really think about it. I cannot understand why people prefer hanging out at the beach… Where to go…? People have to see something they like, something they can comment about. Build a brand Branding is important and keeps people recognizing your work. There is enough mainstream and boring photography out there. We do this for the sake of art and not to disrespect somebody. This means you have to already point your camera at the person, focus on the eye and be ready to shoot. The crazier the better and people will be interested.

Candid street photography captures unique and authentic moments in time. You need to have the right kind of gear. You need sharp camera skills.
