I did try using just the bottom blade with a couple extra washers for spacers, and the results weren't too bad. It absolutely bagged better that it did with both blades and left less stragglers. Mulching wasn't as good obviously, but I will say that using just the single lower blade does better at mulching than the twin blade does at bagging. If given the choice, I would run the the lower blade only if I wanted a do all mower as a solo guy. It literally packs grass and leaves into the bag like a brick, that's sorta difficult to shake loose if you pack it too hard. It require no spacers or washers. You siply remove the BS Honda twin blade and put this bad beotch on. My God is this a great product. It leaves zero stragglers, bags like a true high vac blade, and it mulches not too bad. It leaves less clumps than the twin blade on wet grass, but it also leaves longer clippings on dry grass. Conclusion: If I only wanted to run one mower as a solo, I would not even consider Honda's silly twin blade.
