HIghland Tweeds are a collection of all Wool Blankets destined to become a family favorites. Perfect to snuggle up next to fire, take a nap, read your favorite novel, or pack for a road trip. Imported from United Kingdom. Wool is like a spring, it has natural crimp that allows it to return to its natural shape. Its complex coiled structure gives it great resilience against becoming flat and hard. Wool is well-known to be strong and resilient. Wool fiber can be bent without breaking and still have the power to recover. The high nitrogen and water content make wool a naturally fire retardant fiber which is hard to ignite. Wool does not melt, drip or emit fumes — the major cause of death in fire and also the major issue for restricting access by fire officers during incidents. So it helps you stay warm when the weather is cold, and cool when the weather is hot.

In this photo, a weaver in the Outer Hebrides is shown producing Harris Tweed on a foot-pedal loom. The centuries-old textile tradition carries on in these remote islands off the west coast of Scotland. Bending over her year-old, cast iron loom, year-old weaver Miriam Hamilton begins the clickety-clackety process of turning wool yarn into tweed. She learned to weave from a year-old crofter tenant farmer and craftsman in , but she infuses her fabrics with her own energy and palettes. Like many traditional practices born in the countryside of Scotland , tweed draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and materials from its sheep-filled fields. The hard-wearing, all-weather textile hearkens to an older, simpler way of life, its history touching on both the doings of British royals and local farm life. Weavers produce tweed fabric in these isolated structures, representatives of a true cottage industry. But the present—and future of tweed—suggests a happy marriage between these remote crafting communities and big city fashion designers, between age-old fabrications and cutting-edge technology. No one town or mill owns the history of tweed. Woolen fabrics have been part of daily life in Scotland for centuries, worn by farmers, game wardens, and athletes.
