The series stars Joshua Bassett as Ricky, a former star basketball player who is trying to win back his ex-girlfriend Nini, played by Olivia Rodrigo, by auditioning for the musical. Matt Cornett plays E. J, Nini's new boyfriend who also auditions for the musical, causing tension between him and Ricky. Sofia Wylie plays Gina, a new student who also auditions for the musical and threatens to steal the spotlight from Nini.
