If you are a fan of series that are set in the apocalypse, you are no stranger to gory scenes and death. The Walking Dead has provided many such scenes, with some making more of an impact than others. He shows them to the hill, where a horrific site greets them. This was a warning from Alpha to the communities who had crossed her borders. Siddiq, who was left alive to tell the tale, would later explain how the Whisperers captured them. Before the victims were killed, they were found by Ozzy, Alek, and DJ, which gave them a fighting chance. They all fought and protected one another, even taking out some Whisperers, dying as heroes. She does this to confront Lydia Cassady McClincy and is rejected by her daughter. Before each victim is revealed, viewers see someone looking for them at the fair, and then their reanimated head is shown. It was fantastic cinematography that sent viewers on a roller coaster of emotions. The pike scene is one remembered well by viewers of The Walking Dead series.

Alpha and her people ambush Daryl, Michonne, and Carol and warn them not to threaten her. Some quick differences: in the comics, the Fair is held in Alexandria, not the Kingdom.

As the fair at the Kingdom begins, Alpha leads an attack on a caravan from the Hilltop going to the Kingdom. Michonne brings all the leaders from the communities together to apologize for Alexandria forgoing its relationships, to announce that Alexandria will give asylum to Lydia, and to establish a mutual protection pact knowing that Alpha will likely retaliate. To affirm the pact, Ezekiel has the communities sign Michonne's charter and then starts arranging for a small combined force to travel to the Hilltop to make sure it is secure from an attack by the Whisperers. As the fair continues, Alpha poses as one of the Alexandria fairgoers from the caravan and gathers information. Earlier that day, Daryl's small force leaves for the Hilltop and meets up with the Highwaymen en route. The Highwaymen point them to the group of Hilltop residents that were killed by Alpha.

While maybe not as overtly severe as the season 7 premiere in which Negan Jeffrey Dean Morgan beat Abraham and Glenn to death with his baseball bat, it certainly beat that episode in terms of quantity — this episode saw ten protagonist characters murdered and their heads placed on spikes. And as they head home they encounter said border markings — ten spikes, each with the zombified head of a protagonist character on it. It turned out that Alpha and presumably other members of the Whisperers had infiltrated the trade fair and snatched these folks, with some others being added later when they made a rescue attempt. Considering the fact that so many character deaths were revealed so quickly — combined with how some of these folks are either relatively minor figures or have been less prominent this season than in the past — it might be tough to keep track of who all actually died this week. The next most prominent character killed was Tammy Rose Brett Butler from Hilltop — she happens to be the only character killed in this sequence in the comics who also died here on the show. They, along with the former Savior-turned-Alexandrian DJ Matt Mangum , had tracked the Whisperers and tried to rescue the folks the Whisperers had kidnapped.
