Modern handguns are generally extremely reliable, but there are some common Glock malfunctions that are useful to be aware of, so you can fix them quickly. The extractor part of the Glock is a small, spring-loaded part which is designed to help remove fired cartridges from the chamber of the gun. If this part fails, it is often because there has been damage to the extractor depressor channel. If this is the case, the additional friction between the extractor and the depressor spring will slow movement, potentially causing issues. The problem may also be caused by a broken extractor. There may not be enough tension to give the bullet a good pathway into the chamber. If you are having problems and you think your extractor might be the cause, invest in a Glock extractor plunger assembly to get to the bottom of the problem and fix it.

Whether on the range or via e-mail, I receive a lot of questions regarding pistol malfunctions. These questions go beyond discussing the skills required to clear malfunctions. I chose failure to feed since it is arguably the start of the cycle of operations. Internal Ballistics Part I listed detailed descriptions on each of the elements in the cycle of operation, which are: Feeding, Chambering, Locking, Firing, Unlocking, Extracting, Ejecting, and Cocking. This discussion will cover the majority of possible malfunctions or interruptions of the first three elements in the cycle of operations. Although it is easy to clear this malfunction, it is very frustrating and can cost precious seconds in a live engagement or competition. When things are working properly, a small tab on the top left side of the magazine follower engages the portion of the slide lock protruding into the interior of the frame. As the last round is stripped from the magazine, the follower moves to the highest position in the magazine. Once that last round is fired and ejected, the follower pushes the slide lock protrusion and slide lock body up and into a small cut-out in the slide, thus locking it to the rear. While they are generally known for their reliability and durability, like any firearm, they can experience problems from time to time. This blog will discuss some of the most common Glock problems and how to fix them. One of the most common issues with Glocks is a failure to feed. This occurs when the slide fails to pick up the next round from the magazine, preventing the gun from firing. The most common cause of this problem is a dirty or damaged magazine.

I purchased the firearm late last year, cleaned and lubricated it, and put rounds through it. Rotating the three magazines, I had three nose-up failure to feeds with PMC Bronze rounds into the magazine, two of which were back-to back. I chalked it up to the PMC Bronze ammunition. I went ahead and ordered some new PMC Bronze for a future range trip to rule out a problem with the batch. Again, I experienced 5 more failures to feed only with the PMC Bronze mostly on the first or second round in the magazine, and once on the 10th round. The problem was reproducible on all three magazines, but only with the PMC Bronze ammunition.

I can stand off to the side from as far away as 25 yards; and, I'll know who can, or can't, handle a handgun well just by watching the pistol recoil. Often, this is caused by problems with the firearm itself or the ammunition but it can sometimes be caused by a faulty magazine. Failure to completely chamber the new round? I would try cleaning it well, and maybe have your husband or someone knowledgeable take a look over it inside and out to see if anything is wrong, and then from there take it to the store where you purchased it. October 9, , PM Sturmgewehre. At this point, I had shot about rounds through the pistol. Just have a couple I like tinkering with. Lets not hijack this poor posters thread though. In many cases, keeping the magazines, feed ramp, and extractor especially under the extractor hook clean can alleviate many of these problems. Create An Account. You didn't mention what ammo you were using. I'm not an experienced Glock shooter but they don't misfeed for me. My stock g43 was having ftf due to the extractor hanging up on the back of the case.
