Night Shyamalan released a superhero tale that challenged the idea of what could be expected from the genre. Bruce Willis's David Dunn wasn't just a reluctant hero; he also wasn't sure if his abilities were even to be considered superpowers. The film was light on action, CGI, a climactic showdown with a big villain, and everything else you expected from a superhero movie—in fact, that it was a superhero movie wasn't revealed until its twist ending.
