Gardiner Chess is the largest chess coaching company in Queensland, one of the largest in Australia and is highly regarded for our work. Graeme is a former president of the Australian Chess Federation and was also the Development Officer of the nearby Somerset College for many years. Wendy worked at the University of Queensland - initially in department of parasitology and then in tropical health. It contained coaching areas, a chess book and equipment shop, a cafe, internet facilities, a library, a spacious tournament hall equipped with monitors and technology for broadcasting live games online. The centre also contained an office from which a large chess in schools program was run. Assisted by guest coaches like Grand Master Ian Rogers , it gathered a highly positive reputation in the international chess community, and is widely considered as a benchmark in chess centre design. Events in Toowoomba are run independently by the Toowoomba Chess Club, whilst there are currently no events in Western Queensland. Inter-School events are available for all ages and abilities — if your school has never taken part, please contact us for full information. This event will have multiple divisions. Please ensure registration is done either via the website link or by sending an excel spreadsheet to [email protected] no later than Monday 13th May! Medals will be awarded for 1st to 3rd teams and 1st to 3rd individuals in each division, with merit ribbons to those individuals scoring 4. This one day rapid event is perfect for juniors of all ages and abilities as there will be two divisions! The OPEN division is for all rated players and for those trying hard to get a rating. The NOVICE division will be for unrated players only and is perfect for younger or newer players wanting to try a weekend tournament for the first time.
