Football can be a cruel game.
The beautiful game, as we all know it - well, before VAR was introduced, anyway - never ceases to amuse. Twitter king Michy Batshuayi memorably booted the ball into his own face via the post after Adnan Januzaj scored for Belgium against England at the World Cup. Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard was sent off after just 38 seconds after coming off the bench against Manchester United in March Liverpool ended up wasting a golden opportunity to win the Premier League title and the incident, unfortunately, will always haunt poor old Stevie G. The football Man Utd produced under his management may have been awful but at least he provided some entertainment during his two seasons in English football. Arguably his funniest moment came during a match against Arsenal when he theatrically fell to the deck in order to make a point.

After the lengthy delay, Gerry Daly converted one of the most bizarre spot kicks ever.

While might not have been the bin fire that will always be remembered as, it's fair to say that it wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows either. From lockdowns to tragic passings and difficulties altogether personal to each one of us, the nearing prospect of and the hope of a better 12 months is something that we can all get behind. However, even through the toughest of moments that has afflicted us with, the ever-comforting distraction that is football has made those nadirs and crises feel at least 0. Whether that's a dramatic goal, jaw-dropping skill or simply the team of your heart actually winning a game, football will forever be an escapism from the pangs of real life that we keep coming back to. And sometimes, the beautiful game goes that one step further with a downright funny moment that not only takes you away from your everyday stresses, but even gives you a fit of laughter to boot.

It wasn't the most memorable NFL season when it came to the quality of play. Sixteen teams finished below. Not great stuff. But when it came to funny things that happened on and around the field, it's been great. Fans were jumping on flaming tables and ripping jerseys like Hulk Hogan, while players were messing up in the most spectacular of ways.
