I'm 2 chapters in and, while it's an easy enough read, there is nothing enjoyable about the book. The writing is highly contrived and does nothing to make the main character sympathetic or even interesting. Life just sort of happens to this charmed-yet-cursed make up your mind already boy.

January 04, From the award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of The Monsters of Templeton and Arcadia , an exhilarating novel about marriage, creativity, art, and perception. Fates and Furies is a literary masterpiece that defies expectation. A dazzling examination of a marriage, it is also a portrait of creative partnership written by one of the best writers of her generation. Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years. At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness.

Where champagne must grow, too the fertile Hudson Valley! See Featured Authors Answering Questions. This truly is a book of poetic words masking uninteresting characters and a boring plot. There was a lot to unpack in book 3. Literary fiction often seems to generate mixed reviews on Goodreads. For readers of the series, I can promise you this - you will absolutely love Book 3! Because this is how Groff imagines that real people act. About how people can seem one way but be another, or how life may seem to go in one direction but to someone else it's moving in the totally opposite way. It was a strange and wonderful world where Kipp Snowden was more legend than the legends of Thezmarr. Kersten No. Just never said.
Like Gone Girl, this tightly controlled portrait of a cruel and impossible relationship pivots on a shift in perspective.
How horrible! The enemies they are facing are powerful, but there are warriors out there who can come together to defeat them if they pull this off right. This is a complex love story, full of secrets and regrets and passion. But most importantly, if you like the grotesque, you will enjoy this book. Thought there was a bit of wordy overkill and dragging out the story with some irrelevancies. It is simply a shallow read that I won't remember by the end of the month. The ne'er-do-well golden boy who can't act becomes the latest phenom in playwrights. In the second half, we double back and get Matilde's point of view -- including a view into her impoverished dark childhood and adolescence, and her intense love for Lotto, mixed in with a fury and secretiveness fuelled by her past. Without many spoilers, would you recommend this book to me? I cannot stress that enough. Jeff Bell yes, it picks up! I love my grumpy badass warrior MMC who would do anything for Thea. Not a bit. What a horrible disappointment from my most anticipated Fall release. Because this is how Groff imagines that real people act.
