The series was made as a response to the first Fantastic Four film. The series does not tell the origin but assumes that audiences would get this thanks to the first movie, which had been released several months before. Here, the four heroes-to-be were on a space station, not a shuttle as in the comics and previous incarnations, along with Doctor Doom. Doom was directly responsible for the failing of the station's shields. Though unlike the film Doom does not gain any powers by this and remains closer to the comic version. The first half focus on the mysteries of the Negative Zone and Doom's attempts to exploit its power. They would also find other superheroes such as Ant-Man and the Incredible Hulk. The second half was less focused and each episode was more or less intended as separate. In this part of the series they would team up with other heroes such as Iron Man , Namor , and She-Hulk. Unlike previous series, this series featured original storylines. Though certain Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comics did serve as inspirations for several episodes. Like the film, Alicia Masters was portrayed as an African-American rather than as a Caucasian as in the comics and previous series. According to writer Christopher Yost , Fantastic Four villain Galactus was off-limits for the show though he could not remember why. Terminus was used in his place. The series combined traditional two-dimensional art with modern three-dimensional computer generated imagery.

When it comes to adaptations, few Marvel properties have had a rougher time of it than the Fantastic Four. Despite being Marvel's "First Family," with their original comic debuting all the way back in , the Fantastic Four have struggled in an age when seemingly every other Marvel hero or team has become a big-screen sensation. We did get three 20th Century Fox-produced Fantastic Four films released over the past 20 years, but all three failed to leave much of a lasting impact. We also know that a new film reboot from Marvel Studios is on the way, but, while we wait on that, let's look back at an underappreciated adaptation that really did get these characters right: Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes , the unfortunately short-lived cartoon from French animation studio MoonScoop that aired on and off throughout the back half of the s. Where the previous Fantastic Four cartoon from just titled Fantastic Four tended to directly adapt storylines from comic issues relatively unchanged, World's Greatest Heroes found the right balance between being faithful to the character dynamics and upbeat tone from classic comics while building its own take on the characters and scenarios. Some base premises from the comics are used here such as Doctor Doom launching the Baxter Building into space and the Hulk and the Thing getting into a brawl , but the way they play out feel specific to the world of the show.
