Credence Barebone transforming into his Obscurus form. An Obscurial was a young wizard or witch who had developed a dark parasitical magical force, known as an Obscurus , as a result of their magic being suppressed through psychological or physical abuse. According to Albus Dumbledore , an Obscurial could possibly be healed by replacing their feelings of alienation, which ultimately created their Obscurus, with a sense of belonging.

Newt Scamander and a suitcase full of fantastical creatures clambered in cinemas and swiftly captured the imaginations of Potterheads old and new. An Obscurus is a disease that manifests itself in young witches or wizards who suppress their magical powers. A cloud of black smoke capable of obliterating roads and uprooting houses, that leave destruction in their wake. The form of the witch or wizard before they were infected by the Obscurus can be seen within the cloud when the Obscurial is immobile. In Fantastic Beasts the US is a dangerous place to be a witch or wizard. Throughout the film she decries the magical community, dehumanising witches and wizards whilst warning no-majs — American muggles — of their evil presence. Living in the shadow of their adopted mother, the pair are forced to suppress their magical powers, for fear of being persecuted. How Graves released the Obscurial is also unclear, but throughout the film Graves seeks out Obscurials, recruiting the vulnerable Credence to track them down. Gellert Grindelwald believes that muggles should be subservient to witches and wizards, which is — for obvious reasons — quite an unpopular view among the majority of the magical community. The dark wizard is therefore keen to drive a wedge between the two communities and ignite a war — all in order to gain followers for his dark cause. Due to their destructive nature, Obscurials are capable of inflicting enough pain and chaos to expose the magical community to the muggle world and create division. Later in the film, when Credence has his own violent outbreak brought on by his Obscurus, Scamander manages to convince him that all the destruction he is causing is unnecessary. We briefly see Credence revert from his Obscurial form to his human form, suggesting that he is capable of ridding himself of the Obscurus altogether.
When an Obscurus killed someone, it left specific marks on the victim's body, largely focused on their face.
Magical creatures are an aspect of the fictional Wizarding World contained in the Harry Potter series and connected media originally created by British author J. Throughout the seven main books of the series, Harry and his friends encounter many of these creatures on their adventures in Hogwarts , the Forbidden Forest , or other locations throughout the Wizarding World. In addition, students learn to take care of creatures such as hippogriffs and unicorns in the Care of Magical Creatures class at Hogwarts. Rowling has also written Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , a guide to the magical beasts found in the series, and based on the fictional textbook of the same name written by Newt Scamander and used by students at Hogwarts. Many of these creatures are derived primarily from Greek mythology and other folklore, namely British and Scandinavian. I might not use it, but to make it as consistent as I feel is good for my plot.

In order to do so, Pickett picks a lock in a German Ministry of Magic prison. Newt's Niffler Teddy played a crucial role in "The Crimes of Grindelwald," stealing the blood pact amulet from Grindelwald so that Newt could deliver it to Dumbledore. He makes a return appearance in "The Secrets of Dumbledore," helping Pickett save Newt and Theseus, and accompanying the wizard on his travels. Early in the film, Newt travels to China to assist an adult Qilin in giving birth. However, he's intercepted by Grindelwald's followers, among them Credence, who kill the adult and abduct its offspring. The Qilin, however, gave birth to not one, but two babies. Credence delivers one to Grindelwald, and the dark wizard is quick to sacrifice it and later reanimate and charm it to choose him during the International Council of Wizards election. Newt, however, takes care of the other one, and protects it, eventually bringing it to the International Confederation of Wizards election in Bhutan.

Because of their docile, obedient natures, some families abuse their house-elves; Dark wizard families in particular seem to make a habit thereof, as when the Malfoys forced Dobby to torture himself, or when the Black family customarily decapitated their house-elves as they became enfeebled by age. So instead of learning to harness or to control their powers, they developed what was called an Obscurus.
