Fairlight makes state of the art steel frames and a carbon fork. If you're into details, definitely check out the "Design Notes" on the Strael model. Even their "road bike" would be gravel capable with clearance for 36 mm tires. The gravel bike fits 61 mm tires. For the weight conscious folks out there, these steel frames will weigh about 2 pounds ish grams more than a high end carbon frame. Disclaimer: I have no connection to this company. I'm just hopelessly into bikes of all frame materials.
Not many brands offer the level fairlight cycles customisation at the purchase stage. Fairlight Strael 3. Vuelta Femenina gains extra race day, will include three hilltop finishes and TTT.
Practically perfect, unendingly versatile, great to ride, easy to live with, and brilliant value. My initial review after about six months was the first five-star rating I gave to a bike. Interestingly, the only other bike I have given that score to was the Fairlight Strael , the brand's road offering.
The Secan is our gravel bike. The design of the Secan revolves around the simple idea that you can transition between road and off-road and ride fast everywhere. It can transform your local riding, as you begin to link up all the best lanes with farm tracks, bridleways, even woodland single track. To me, this is what gravel bikes are all about. An area that you think you knew, all of a sudden becomes a world of unexplored tracks and bridleways; you see and experience the landscape differently. A local loop in even the most ordinary of landscapes can become so much more. This idea of real-world riding drives the design of the bike. A performance tube set that feels lively and eager, not over-built. A light-weight and confidence inspiring carbon fork with cage mounts and internally sleeved dynamo routing. A geometry and ride position that feels familiar and efficient on the road but stable and predictable off-road.

All Fairlight bikes have been thoughtfully conceived with the rider in mind. Everybody is different; our bikes are designed to account for differences in body proportions, not just overall height. We offer all of our frame sizes in R egular and T all versions so that you can achieve your perfect fit. Lower at the front and longer in reach. Designed for people with shorter legs and a longer back but just as suitable for riders wanting a lower and racier riding position. Higher at the front and shorter in reach. Designed for people with longer legs and a shorter back but also appropriate for riders who want a more upright riding position. We always recommend having a bike fit. There is no better way to find your optimum position for cycling, enabling you to find both comfort and efficiency on the bike. It makes even more sense as we are one of the few bike companies that let you specify your stem length, handlebar width and crank length.

It just feels right! Find out more about how we test. Ordering the bike presents a wealth of build decisions including colour, groupset, wheels, tyres, headset, stem length, bar width, crank length, brake setup and bottle cages. They are great bikes. However, one thing is certain: the damping properties of cleverly designed and combined Reynolds tubes are hard to beat. Thanks to their so-called Proportional Geometry, Fairlight Cycles can cater to riders of all shapes and sizes, offering the next best thing to a tailor-made frame. The spec on this review build is mostly the standard Shimano Ultegra Di2 setup that Fairlight offers, but with a Chris King headset, which adds to the price slightly. The other qualm I have with this setup from the factory is that b is becoming something of an outdated standard. Join now for unlimited access. If you're into details, definitely check out the "Design Notes" on the Strael model. In the case of the Secan the eye is immediately drawn to that top tube; diminutive, ovalised along the horizontal axis, with subtle graphics near the seat tube.
Superb all-day comfort; just enough tyre clearance, even when using mudguards; highly adaptable frameset; super-neat dynamo light integration; customisable build options; fabulous colour.
When initially speccing the Secan I opted for wider-than-stock 44cm bars, which to be honest felt a little cumbersome for general riding. The stays too, custom formed, are pleasantly wavy which, as well as being lovely to look at, allows clearance for a 50mm tyre on a c wheel, or a truly monstrous 2. For reference, the below image is the Strael road bike overlaid with the 3T Extrema Italia , which is by no means that radical by gravel geometry. You must be logged in to post a comment. Fairlight Secan 2. The 3T Extrema Italia, while significantly more expensive double the price, for reference , handles this big-tyre MTB adjacent stuff better. At the time I was living on the edge of the Lake District, and had some big gravel to play with; essentially MTB trails. For the build, Fairlight rely on premium products from a supplier close to home. If you want to up the cruising speed, we would recommend swapping out the tires for faster rolling models like the Specialized Pathfinder or the Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H. All rights reserved. Within this constant churn of setups, there have been a few distinct flavours, and of these, there is one setup where I think the bike shines the best.
