Even before Electric furnace factorio producing modules, once I have the near-infinite power of nuclear, my preference is to start building with electric ovens. Not needing a fueling system isn't really an advantage, as such a system should already be in place for existing smelting columns. Posts:

The sonny & cher comedy hour

The last time I brought this up, we where on v0. Everything in factorio has a balance, electric furnaces allow for modules and can be runn on green energy without any logistic of fuel, however they are more expensive, and do require power. Everything in my base works like that. Can't get more compact than the beaconized setup. Store Page. As in v16, the v17 incarnation of electric furnaces still do the same work as steel at the same speed but require much more space 9 squares vs 4. Quick links. Re: [Poll] Is it worth switching to electric furnace Post by Frightning » Sat Aug 12, pm The value of the Electric furnace has always been the ability to use modules and Beacons and electric power not derived from burning fuel Solar and now nuclear power. In my opinion, the longer you are going to be playing, and the more your base is going to grow, the more worthwhile it is to switch to electric furnaces over the long term though I would also want to switch to either nuclear or solar power as well. I would also stick to coal based electric power generation.

Power has become cheap This means that when you're in the steam power phase of the game, electric furnaces are still taking twice the fuel to produce a plate as a steel furnace and have an idle power draw on top of that. The cheapest electric furnace setup, which slightly beats steel furnaces are electric furnaces with 1 efficiency modules. Re: [Poll] Is it worth switching to electric furnace Post by Selvek » Fri Aug 18, pm Electric furnaces, because with nuclear, power is free. Last edited by Colonel Sanders Lite ; 12 Mar, am. Which is better in the late game? Just complete junk. All rights reserved. It takes a very well developed factory to got to this point though. The strategy I like to use is to go from stone furnaces directly to electric furnaces, also because I dont want to produce stuff which eventually becomes obsolete and therefore wastes resources.
