I have been a primary school teacher for over 20 years, 10 of which have been as a specialist visual arts teacher. I love my job and am passionate about the value of visual arts in a child's education. After creating my own visual arts lessons over many years, I decided I would like to take on the challenge of creating a web page to share my lessons and my simple step by step teaching method with my teaching peers. The stress of tests and social dynamics can prove challenging for students, and for this reason, they need an opportunity to express themselves freely. Art provides a powerful outlet for creative expression while also proving therapeutic. Plus, a good art project can be particularly effective at getting kids to unplug from their devices. A simple art project can even fill some of downtime during the day for early finishers. Regardless of whether you teach preschool or high school, there is an art project for everyone. So gather some art supplies and try one of these easy art projects for kids! As far as easy art projects for kids go, this one is perfect for preschoolers since it works on their hand-eye coordination and their cutting skills in particular. In addition to paper bags and scissors or pinking shears, you will need some paints, paintbrushes, googly eyes, and glue. Since everyone associates apples with fall and the start of school, this will be the perfect craft to start the school year off on the right foot. Simply draw an apple outline on a piece of paper and have small red and green tissue paper squares ready to be crumpled and glued by tiny hands.

The first thing to remember is that oil pastels are not crayons. They are very different in what they are made of and how they are used. Oil pastels use oil and wax to hold them together. This creates the soft, creamy texture of an oil pastel and enables them to be coloured and blended. Crayons use wax to hold them together which makes them much harder and a little more difficult to use. You need to practise these skills if you are going to be great at using oil pastels. One of the downsides of oil pastels is that they can be smudged very easily, especially if you hold them like a pencil. Colours that can be blended together are colours that are nearby on the colour wheel.
