There are many things you should do before facing Calamity Ganon. There are several ways to approach Hyrule Castle. The shaft itself continues into a tunnel leading north, connecting to a break in the southern wall of the first floor of the Library.

It is your choice. If you want to skip ahead to the final battle, just go to the waterfall in the southwest of the island that Hyrule Castle is on, put on your Zora Armor, and swim up the waterfall. Keep going up each waterfall that you reach, and you will soon be very close to the Sanctum. You just need to get past a few Guardian enemies and run into the building.
