February 13, Ask a new question. I have a table where I'm trying to do a sumifs on a certain column in a data sheet, but the summed column is dependent on the week I want to analyze. I've tried doing a sumifs using index and match to get the column, but I can't get the column to return without a cell number:. A1:AB1,0,match 'main'! A1:AB1,0 ,criteria1,criteria2 , where B3 is week 20 for current inventory, which is found in the "data" sheet. Something tells me I might not ever get there with this formula.

Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. Theres's nothing special about the particular values. I think they're called "spilled dynamic arrays"? In my production spreadsheet I did some data mangling across multiple sheets, but I recreated this sample and got the same issue even with these simple expressions. I realize I could simply do a small number of sumifs and make things easier on my sample data set, but my production data set has over 26million datapoints per sheet and multiple sheets, and it's taking hours to process. I'm finding dynamic spilled arrays to be far more time-efficient, even if for no other reason than less RAM aka less swap file usage and probably also better L2 cache performance. Would be nice to have a workbook that doesn't take 2hr to close. MMULT does matrix multiplication and is one of very few ways in Excel you can change the length and width of an array in a single array formula. Understanding how exactly matrix multiplication works is beyond this post but you can read more here. It is important to understand how the dimensions change.

In the example shown, the formula in cell G5 is:. Where data is an Excel Table based on the data in B5:D In this example, the goal is to create a formula that performs a dynamic two-way sum of all City and Size combinations in the range B5:D The solution shown requires four basic steps:. One of the key features of an Excel Table is its ability to dynamically resize when rows are added or removed. In this case, all we need to do is create a new table named data with the data shown in B5:D

In this article, we will learn to create a dynamic sum range based on cell value in Excel. Often, we need to sum a range based on a cell value in Excel. If we change the value of the cell, the sum also automatically updates. Today, we will discuss 4 easy ways to define dynamic sum range in Excel based on cell value. Here, we will use a dataset that contains information about the Sales Amount of the first two months of some Sellers. The INDEX Function returns a value or reference of the cell at the intersection of a particular row and column, in a given range. Here, the first argument is the array D7:E The second argument H5 denotes the rows and the third argument H6 denotes the columns of the array. The Sum Function is just summing up the values starting from D7. Here, we will use the previous dataset.

As everyone knows, Microsoft Excel provides an array of functions to perform various calculations with data. This would seem quite logical… but "logical" it's not always the case when dealing with Microsoft :. How can that be? The first 3 arguments are mandatory, additional ranges and their associated criteria are optional. Suppose, you have a table listing the consignments of fruit from different suppliers. You have the fruit names in column A, suppliers' names in column B, and quantity in column C. What you want is to find out a sum of amounts relating to a given fruit and supplier, e. When you're learning something new, it's always a good idea to start with simple things. To refine the formula further, you can replace the text criteria "apples" and "Pete" with cell references.

Two interesting nuggets: 1 I recorded the timestamp of the start time of data gathering an entire battery, and also the timestamp of data gathering an individual switch; 2 some data-gathering batteries were incomplete, though ultimately enough data was gathered to statistically make this second issue disappear "replace with zero and the missed data is immaterial". I tried the sumproduct, and Excel didn't have the resources to carry out the calculation. Any entries that were zero were dumped, but that still resulted in 26million lines in the interfaces CSV file VLANs was smaller - only 8million. Products 47 Special Topics 27 Video Hub I was able to do some very coarse profiing Sorry this didn't help. If you now stack B in 2D, i. Aug 18, RoryA.

Each condition is provided with a separate range and criteria.

Is anyone able to suggest a formula that will spill and allow me to do this? Essentially you just need to have the text of the formula built by using other formulas and enclose that within INDIRECT Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
