As fans of the original Dying Light will remember all too well, volatiles are arguably Dying Light 2's toughest standard enemy type. After first encountering them in Markers of Plague , they'll emerge once you've reached level 3 of a chase or when you're exploring the deepest of dark zones , and shouldn't be fought head-on, especially if you're in the early stages of the game. Their immense power and speed mean they'll catch you in a straight chase and, depending on your level, can finish you off in just a few hits. Volatiles are at an extremely late stage of the infection, transforming from standard undead shamblers into nightmarish monsters fine-tuned to kill. They have detached jaws, toughened grey skin and piercing eyes.

The Volatile is an infected that only emerges at night. Volatiles are capable of taking several hits from high powered weapons and can quickly cause significant amounts of damage. Volatiles are broad-shouldered and slightly taller than the average Biter. Other physical markers include full-bodied nudity, exposed bone and muscle and a mandible jaw that it uses against non-infected humans. They can audibly be identified by their heavy breathing and loud screeches. Volatiles are extremely fast, and can navigate through the dark at high speeds, matching the agility of the player perfectly, scaling obstacles and buildings in the same manner. However, after " First Assignment ", you will get a UV flashlight which can be equipped and used when a volatile pounces, pushing them back and giving you enough time to escape. Players at higher levels with the appropriate skill can shake their attacks off relatively easily, but a low level player will need an incredibly powerful weapon in order to have any chance of survival. In the event that a Volatile can see a player but not reach them, they will use a powerful rapid spit attack similar to those employed by Toads. They often do this while the player is climbing to knock them off a ledge and deal high damage. When time progresses to day instead of despawning, Volatiles will become frightened and start running to the nearest dark zone such as a tunnel or cave. While running for shade, Volatiles will always ignore the player, even if they attack them, until they reach a dark zone, where they will become as aggressive as they were during the night. If one were to chase a fleeing Volatile at sunrise, you can sometimes see them die from the sun before making it to a dark area.

Hives are a group of developing Volatiles which survivors must kill to win a multiplayer match against the Night Hunter. The Hives are found throughout the multiplayer matches when the Night-Hunter invades the survivors game. Hives contain Undeveloped Volatiles which will soon develop unless the survivor kills them. Hives contain large amounts of shredded corpses and sometimes other Virals from biters to goons to even developed Volatiles. They are also seen in The Following. The undeveloped Volatiles within the Hive do not attack the player but can take a large amount of hits depending on the players weapon. But its what's within the hive and what's coming to defend it that can and will attack you. The survivors will often need to kill the inhabitants of the Hive then attack the undeveloped Volatiles while also looking out for the Night hunter. Another strategy is to throw down UV flares next to the hive to weaken it. That way, the hives take less time to destroy and their health won't regenerate.

Both saves are on Hard difficulty and maybe my memory is off but I don't remember there being so damn many volatiles everywhere at night, even on the rooftops so I keep getting spotted and a chase gets triggered almost constantly. I recall there only used to be volatiles showing up during a level chase, although this was maybe a year ago when I was still on my first playthrough.

I imagine they recover from UV fairly quickly, like night hunters The Volatile was still glowing when I hit it, if that helps at all. When in a pursuit, the Volatiles appear to have increased dexterity in their legs, allowing them to run much faster than they would normally their speed appear to match that of the buggy at 70 MPH. Granted they were still easy to kill back in DL1 at the endgame. Can they be killed by melee weapons?
Dying Light The Following has some seriously challenging quests for brave players to embark on. Included in the infected Countryside are Volatile Nests.
Game need patches bugs, not buff the volatiles. In DL1 you can kill them once you're strong enough. At night they can prove very difficult to evade or hide from as the Countryside is a vast open area with few areas to hide in. Be warned, they have a ranged attack in their arsenal too, with volatiles able to launch acid , similar to spitters. Alongside receiving rare resources, you'll get your hands on Unique Infected Trophies , which can be used to purchase high-level upgrades for your favourite equipment. Players at higher levels with the appropriate skill can shake their attacks off relatively easily, but a low level player will need an incredibly powerful weapon in order to have any chance of survival. Unlike the Blue Volatile, they tend to be a lot more straight-forward and attack with claws rather than spit, this makes them a dangerous opponent as Blue Volatiles tend to hold back and spit rather than use their claws and their durability to overwhelm the player, while Ice Volatiles don't hold back and run up to you and claw you, dealing a very good portion of your health.
