Durham university module handbook
University staff want to see you do well and they understand that you are navigating a range of challenges outside of your studies which may impact the time you have to work effectively on their course.
The Undergraduate Module Handbook formerly the Faculty Handbook includes the programme regulations for all undergraduate degrees offered by Durham University. You can use the regulations to check which modules are compulsory on your programme, and which are optional. The module and programme information here is for current modules and programmes. Modules and programmes do change year-on-year, and are amended to take account of, for example: changing staff expertise, disciplinary developments, the requirements of external bodies and partners, and student feedback. Programme regulations should be read in conjunction with the Core Regulations for Undergraduate Programmes. To find the regulations for your degree programme, use the Programme Search links below.

In light of the global pandemic, we have reviewed all programmes and modules to ensure we can deliver a high-quality educational experience that is flexible, accessible and inclusive. During this review, our first priority has been the health and safety of our students and staff. The main change we have made is to move to a blended teaching model, combining face to face with online delivery. Our aim is to deliver as much face to face teaching as we safely can, maximising the use of space on campus and reviewing our timetable each term. If it is not feasible to increase face to face teaching, or guidelines are not relaxed, we will continue to offer a mixture of face to face and online teaching during the year. If guidelines are made more restrictive, or there is a further lockdown, we will move more content online as necessary. In most cases, we have not had to make further significant changes to our programmes.

To ensure that you get the maximum benefit from in-person contact with lecturers, we have prioritised high-value interactions, for example discussion groups and workshops, for face to face delivery. You'll be able to see which classes will be available on a face to face or digital basis when the University timetable is published in the coming weeks. In general terms, lectures and other larger group activities will be delivered digitally. Lectures will generally be asynchronous, and there may be some changes to published duration for asynchronous sessions, for example where sessions would typically otherwise be broken up with group discussion or activities.
