P error code. Thread Tools. Need an opinion on where to start for a P error. When it occured, got a check engine light and a Stability Control Light on but they when away on restart. Engine untill turned off was obivious that it had a problem with a whole engine miss stumble when pulling away. Problem occured coasting to a red light. Normal maintenance has always been done.

Thread Tools. Does anyone know what cause this code? I got a check engine light lastnight checked it with a scanner but the code is not in the book. View Public Profile. View iTrader Profile. You should only be using 5w or 5w

Reading the EOC, I know that it might take a few cycles for it to get cleared so I wasn't stressed about it, especially considering that I had dtc p1009 honda filled the tank yesterday and made sure that I clicked the cap about 4 times. I grabbed it and immediately about 50 small blue tufts floated off it.

NO-Troubleshooting is complete. NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information. Is the result OK? Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM. Remove the rocker arm oil pressure switch A , and install the special tools as shown, then install the rocker arm oil pressure switch in the oil pressure gauge attachment B.

So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator. The diagnostic trouble code DTC is stored if there is an over-advanced camshaft phase compared with the directed value or if the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal. The VTC system controls camshaft oil intake. By providing optimal engine efficiency and performance, the VTC system can maximize engine performance.

The diagnostic trouble code DTC P in Honda vehicles is an indication of an issue related to the timing control of the variable valve system. The VTC system plays a crucial role in determining the opening of the intake camshaft, effectively managing the amount of oil that flows into the camshaft. The VTC actuator, a central component of this system, is operated through oil pressure. It dynamically adjusts valve timing to maximize power output and ensure efficient operation under varying driving conditions. The valve timing, crucial for proper engine functioning, is directly influenced by the prevailing driving conditions. The PCM provides control commands that are continuously monitored to set the correct direct value for camshaft timing. When the camshaft phase becomes excessively advanced or deviates abnormally from the direct value, the system detects and stores the P code. To identify this malfunction, a diagnostic scanner is employed to read the code and highlight the issue.

What is the lowest mileage you have seen with this being necessary? Does have just a slight tic more then new. Could you actually fill it before. I have the service manual but it's now a little daunting now. I do find a use for my timing light and dwell meter about once a year, and yes it's on modern cars with electronic ignition LOL. I have the factory service manual and while I can definitely change my own oil, this is definitely a job I won't attempt myself. I have never worked on a glued together engine like now days. Check for continuity between rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector terminal No. Apparently if clogged or dirty it could also trigger the p Not a lot of driving since cleared. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Think I ought to replace it. Recommended Communities. Is DTC P indicated?

Are you using a service manual that tells you to check those 4 things? Quote message in reply? It could be a mistake in the manual I have but it says to investigate the before the If not, you could take advantage of this opportunity to replace it and the tensioner. Measure voltage between rocker arm oil pressure switch 2P connector terminal No. I cleared the error and had no problem for the next days. I hope this information helps someone else out there who is pulling their hair out like I was. I'm still about 40 days away from being due and it looks like I'm gonna hit the 3 month limit this time instead of the 3k limit. Only reason I noticed it is there is some type of groan squeak somewhere. On the way down the hill I noticed a loss of power when trying to accelerate strange for going downhill. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM. Sort of like having severe heart attack symptons, not a good idea to go out and run like you are in a race. Car runs well but occassionally when idling, either stopper or parked, rpm's will dip and a shake can be felt coinsiding with a whine?
