Given the following scenario: The players are facing an evil aboleth, lich, wizard, "Fred from accounting", etc. Of course the villain throws his dominated minion at the heroes first, as he tries to fight from a distance or flee. The minion misses his will-roll, or dosen't need to roll one, because he would gladly fight the player-characters anyway. Now a spellcaster of the group has the idea to dominate the minion with a second dominate spell and of course the minion fails his will-roll on that one too. After that he player-character orders the minion to attack his former master. Resolving the problem to charm a already charmed person is much easier.

Hey all, I was looking through the bard spell list and was surprised to see dominate monster missing off it. At first, I thought the logic could potentially be a 6th level spell caster shouldn't be powerful enough to cast it but after looking at the spell realized that summoners can cast it. Is there something I'm missing as to why bards miss out on this spell? I think if you look through the summoner spell list you'll find a lot of spells that would be higher level on any other class spell list the same can be said for bards actually, just not quite as much. The long answer is: "Summoners have a focus on monsters while bards have a focus on interactions with other humanoids. Summoners break every power metric.
