I might have missed something in this thread. Keep track of your anime easily by creating your own list.

Misato and Shinji have one of the deepest, most heavily implied, and one of the most confusing relationships in the Evangelion series. Though trying to act as a guardian, she ends up openly flaunting her sexuality in a way in which provokes response from Shinji. The two exist on far enough planes from each other to promote enough bewilderment to make for a difficult yet truly intriguing relationship until the onset of Instrumentality, in which the full strata of their relationship are unearthed. Shinji first meets Misato not in person, but through and invitation photograph that Misato sends him. The image in and of itself is arousing, depicting Misato more as a potential love interest for Shinji than a mother figure or guardian. Further sexual objectification of her character occurs when one directs their attention to the writing scribbled on the picture.

Instead of being loud and overconfident, he's quiet and self-loathing. His arc is also a subversion of the hero's journey; things just keep getting worse and worse for him, and it doesn't take long for his already fragile ego to crack. One of Evangelion 's themes is the nature of human relationships and how we as individuals can never truly know other people. Though not all of them make things worse, many of Shinji's relationships only exacerbate his problems. Evangelion relies on visual symbolism to convey its ideas. If these symbols aren't rooted in Christianity, odds are they're instead rooted in Freudian psychology. For those unaware, Sigmund Freud coined "the Oedipus complex," named after the Greek tragedy where the titular character kills his father and marries his mother.

However, it turns out she's not dead, but inside Unit 01, and her "death" was part of her plan to ascend to godhood. Post by gorgeousshutin » Sun Nov 18, am. As Ritsuko quite rightly puts it: "What the hell are you thinking! She didn't tell him anything about the past 14 years, and she's blaming him for something she was in favour of at the time, which had an unintentional side effect. Share this: Twitter Facebook. The scene in which Misato makes her case to be Shinji's guardian holds particular significance to the Episode 23 Big Irony Bomb scenario. You thought it would be something about Asuka. Strange huh? And in a moment of decision during the final battle she kisses Shinji and promises him sex if he gets into the EVA unit.

Though the nature of the scene is ambiguous, the nature of Misato's character seems to be suggesting that this position is not just an attempt to get a better look at Sachiel binoculars, anyone? There are times where boys may not see themselves as the victims. She does possess a few of the traits of a pedophile. Obviously, Shinji, who probably has never experienced this kind of friendliness and sympathy is taken aback-- and of course, we happen upon a recurring theme: that he "musn't run away" from beginning his new life in Tokyo-3 with Misato. As such, Rei doesn't understand being human, much less how to connect with others. Comments In a better world, or maybe just a more conventional series, Shinji and Asuka Langley Soryu could've seen each other as the kindred spirits they are. She hinted at sex she knew she'd never have to reciprocate since she was dying, and once Shinji left the room she just seemed tired, she didn't seem to relish her kiss with Shinji at all. Some example of this would how Misato would just leave him alone for most of the time, of spending time with Kaji while Shinji is left alone. Misato: Shinji, this is about all I can do for you right now.
