The Samurai offers a predictable source of turn-long advantage, which significantly increases accuracy, and therefore average damage. At higher levels, once per turn the Samurai can trade one attack made with advantage for two standard-roll attacks, adding to the number of attacks they deliver. While high level spellcasters can perform miraculous feats, in terms of damage they fall behind optimized martial characters. Tallying all damage done to multiple enemies within an area of effect spell might help them catch up, but such circumstances are too situational to count on. This limits the warlock to targeting one enemy that might already be defeated by the time the debuffs are in place. Optimized fighters, conversely, can consistently deal their full damage in round one. First round damage is vital in 5e DnD , as it was in earlier editions.
