Dell charger turns off when plugged in

June 27th, I woke up this morning and my laptop wouldn't turn on. No sign that it was working at all, no lights turning on or anything. I tried plugging in the charger again, nothing. I tried it with 2 other chargers, same thing. Is this an issue with the jack, power supply, hard drive, or motherboard? Read some other posts here and some other people had issues with those, although their situations were slightly different from mine.

November 7th, I have this problem too 0. Responses 8. November 12th, Usually the light going off is a sign of a bad DC jack broken or bent centre pin or a MB problem. Since the system charges fine using a type C charger I suspect the MB is fine and the problem lies in the adapter or DC jack. Run diagnostics At the Dell splash screen start tapping F November 8th, Sorry, yes MB is the motherboard. Just faster to use MB. The MB is probably fine so it looks like either the adapter or the jack.

I have removed the motherboard. Search the community and support articles Windows Windows 10 Search Community member. And no matter what I do with power button nothing happens.

Ask a new question. Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron I have been using in for 2 years, but recently when i plug in the charger it works for about 30 mins to 1 hour and suddenly shuts down. August 16th, Hi guys! So about 2 and a half months ago, I had a little mishap with my laptop charger. Dunno why I didn't come here first, but it's never too late! Anyway, I had just finished using my laptop for the night, and was plugging it in to charge.

March 9th, I'm writing this to help others who may have had the same problem. The other thread that is on this topic was 'read only' so I couldn't comment. My inspirion 13 's series laptop stopped charging. The light on the adapter worked when plugged into the wall but as soon as I plugged it into the laptop it would go off and wasn't charging.

June 30th, Doing the obvious, when I discovered it wasnt coming back to life again, i set it to rest ontop of some cold tiles on the bathroom floor. So it appears the power supply comes on, but gets turned off instantly when I plug it into the laptop, with or without the battery in the laptop. I called my brother right away to enquire if he has HP charger. Top Contributor. Could this be the wrong power supply? I bought a Inspiron 15r N last feburary and now I think the powesupply went out. When i turned it on, the LCD worked. I am wondering have resolved your problem yet? I came back to my hostel and just as last hope, I plugged in HP charger of compatible pin and miracle happened. I don't have a steady source of income so I can't blow my money on anything that might fix it. Thank you for saying what has been attempted to fix this problem. And you are correct. I spoke with a friend who happens to repair laptops, and he's seen about a dozen of the Dell D-Series all with issue. Precision Fixed Workstations. None of the lights were on, despite frequent plugging and unplugging of the AC Adapter. This is not Dell Support. Note that the charging light going on at all indicated to me the problem was not in the AC jack, and the AC adapter brick light the green one was on, which I assumed meant the problem was not in the AC adapter per se. If it doesn't work, then the fault is likely with the jack or the circuit. Hi, JuiceGame, Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.
