I tried putting down summon signs but they just kill me. I didn't think they'd be able to attack me. I thought I was just going to help with fights. As a tip to anyone else, if you go the Catacombs of Carthus bonfire, and find purple summon signs from players wearing the Symbol of Avarice, they are also farming vertebrae. I swear this covenant gives me mixed results.
